“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”—Philippians 2:9-11
How many times have you heard Jesus’s name praised in the last week? How many times have you heard his name abused? I’m not sure why, but everywhere I go I hear people misusing God’s name. It’s almost like some sort of power trip—people feel powerful when they abuse the Lord’s name.
But one day, every knee will bow down and every tongue will confess his Lordship.
At the sound of his name, the entire world will surrender.
There are a lot of crazy sounds in this world. There are some terrifying sounds. There are some joyful sounds. There are some amazing sounds. There are some heartbreaking sounds and some life-breathing sounds.
The sound of His Name will surpass them all.
I don’t know what sounds are crowding in on your heart and brain this weekend. But I do know that the sound we should be most focused on is often pushed to the back of our minds and slips out in frustration.
I challenge us both, today, tomorrow, and always, to fix our eyes, minds, and souls on the name of Jesus. Today, let’s look for ways to glorify his name. Anyone with me?
