HomeUncategorizedWednesday Wanderings: Little Lessons

Here are a few moments of my week, some lessons I’m learning, & such. Hope they touch or bless you in some way, and feel free to share your own stories/lessons in the comments below! ♡
• Being “cool” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I feel like society (especially teens) puts so much focus on being cool. But what is “cool” exactly? If Jesus is supposed to be our model, he wasn’t exactly into all the cool clothes, neat sayings, and hipster food. We were reading in Isaiah 53 on Sunday at church, and it humbled me to see who Jesus actually was. Does my life look at all like that sacrifice and love, or does it look more like an attempt to achieve the perfect Instagram filters and good grades? Later that day I read 1 Corinthians 13, and it tied in those same concepts. Crazy how different God’s goals are than culture’s (Romans 12:2, Isaiah 55:8-9, Matthew 6:21).
• In order to alleviate stress, live in the moment. I’ve had so much school and stuff lately jammed into my schedule, I can’t stop thinking about it and it’s driving me nuts. But a few days ago Jesus (& my family) helped me let go of everything that wasn’t directly in front of me in each moment. Let’s make choices to reduce stress (this week I made my school schedule a little easier for some subjects because I’ve got to work more on other ones) and then stick by those choices with no guilt.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NIV‬‬
{quick side note: Check out the whole chapter of 2 Corinthians 3. Pretty amazing.}
• Perspective is key to joy. Yesterday morning as I was writing a paper for English class, I realized my evidence sort of disproved my thesis. Oops. Then I went to the post office to get my passport and they said my appointment was 45 minutes earlier than it actually was, so I had to wait. I ordered lunch and they forgot all about my order when I went in to pick it up. Later on I went to rehearsal, which ended early so I was stuck waiting by myself outside in the freezing cold for my ride. But that’s where my perspective got better. My rehearsal was at this gorgeous farm, so I walked around and skipped down a breathtakingly beautiful pathway lined with green trees. I heard birds singing and felt the crisp wind on my face…& felt much closer to God. And when I was waiting at the post office there was this adorable little kid running around who made me remember to have faith like a child and trust God. While I was waiting at the restaurant I got the chance to text a few friends who bring me closer to God. So what I’m getting at/learning is that maybe God intended for me to have these waiting moments, and perhaps I should live fully in them instead of getting annoyed or checking social media. (Today I watched a video about being present in the moment and it totally challenged me. Here’s the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q5db97uoc-o)
• Stand strong for Jesus. I would talk more on this point, but frankly my Dad says it better, so check out what he says: http://alifeworthy.net/scrub-it-clean-one-a-day-tuesday-32216/. I especially love his ending: “There is no sitting for Christ. You stand, or you fall. Stand for him today Beloved.” Will we stand for Jesus today?
• Open hearts are a top priority. I’ve been learning lately that God wants my heart. I’ve given him my hands–my work and trying and more work–but does Abba have my heart? This weekend I’ve seen him mold my heart and make it (hopefully) a little little more like his, by helping me to see those around me with more love and act in a more loving way. But goodness, I need a whole lot more love, so hopefully God’ll keep working on this heart of mine. 😉
Could you imagine how different our lives would be if our hearts grew more like Jesus’s every day?! Let’s surrender our hearts to the Lord this morning.
• Last but not least, let’s surround ourselves with people who build us up in Jesus. I’ve noticed that different people make me feel differently about myself. Some people make me feel loved and accepted, and some people make me feel like I constantly have to perform and win their approval. Let’s make sure we’re building and cultivating relationships that build us up in our Lord. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:17‬ (NIV‬‬
http://bible.com/111/pro.27.17.niv) And let’s do our best to be this kind of loving, accepting, Jesus-giving friend to all who the Lord puts in our paths today.
Thanks for reading through this longer post full of links & verses…I hope something in this brought you a little closer to the One who made you and is in love with ya. :)
Let’s run this race with Him today & each other by our side!

Wednesday Wanderings: Little Lessons — 1 Comment

  1. Needed these little lessons today! It is so easy to get caught up in all the junk and responsibilities that we forget to count our blessings as they come, or even pass them over all together, missing the chance to praise God and thank Him for all He’s done because we’re too upset about the negative things. Love ya, Rissa ❤
